Sanchin Dachi

Sanchin Dachi, also known as the Hourglass Stance, is a fundamental stance used in Kyokushin karate. It is characterized by a narrow and deep stance resembling the shape of an hourglass. In Sanchin Dachi, the feet are placed closer together than in other stances, with the knees slightly bent and the weight evenly distributed between both legs. The stance emphasizes stability, balance, and groundedness, allowing the practitioner to generate power from the lower body while maintaining a strong foundation. Sanchin Dachi is often used in kata (forms) practice to develop proper posture, breathing, and internal strength. It also serves as a defensive stance, providing protection to the groin and lower abdomen. Practitioners train in Sanchin Dachi to cultivate a sense of rootedness and solidity in their techniques, promoting efficiency and effectiveness in both offense and defense.
