Uchi Uke
Uchi Uke, or 'Inside Block,' is a fundamental defensive technique in Shotokan karate. The block involves bringing the arm from an outside position towards the center of the body to intercept and deflect an opponent's attack, usually a straight punch or a strike aimed at the torso. The movement starts with the blocking hand positioned across the body, near the opposite shoulder, and moves inward in a sweeping motion. Uchi Uke is typically executed from stances like Zenkutsu Dachi or Kiba Dachi, providing a stable base for the block. This technique is essential for effective defense, allowing the practitioner to redirect the opponent's force and create opportunities for counter-attacks.
