Moto Dachi
Moto Dachi, or 'Rooted Stance,' is a fundamental stance in Shotokan Karate characterized by its stability and balanced weight distribution.
In this stance, the practitioner positions their feet shoulder-width apart with one foot slightly forward, similar to a shorter version of Zenkutsu Dachi.
The front knee is bent slightly, and the back leg remains mostly straight but not locked.
The weight is distributed evenly between both legs, creating a low and stable center of gravity.
The torso remains upright with the hips and shoulders aligned squarely forward, promoting a balanced and poised posture.
Moto Dachi is used to maintain a strong, rooted foundation while allowing for quick transitions into offensive or defensive movements.
This stance is particularly effective for delivering punches or transitioning into other stances, as it provides a solid base while retaining flexibility for movement.
It emphasizes the importance of stability, balance, and readiness, making it a critical stance in Shotokan Karate training and application.
