Gyaku Zuki
Gyaku Tsuki, or 'Reverse Punch,' is a fundamental punching technique in Shotokan karate. It is executed by punching with the hand opposite to the forward leg, generating power from the rotation of the hips and the back leg. When in a typical stance like Zenkutsu Dachi (forward stance), the punch is thrown with the rear hand, with the fist turning to align the knuckles horizontally upon impact. The non-punching hand simultaneously retracts to the hip in hikite (pull-back) position, ensuring balance and maximizing the force of the punch. Gyaku Tsuki is known for its strong, direct power and is often used to target the opponent's midsection or head, making it an essential technique for both offensive and defensive applications.
