Shiko Dachi
Shiko Dachi, also known as the 'Sumo Stance' in Shotokan karate, is a wide, grounded stance that emphasizes stability and power. In this stance, the feet are positioned wider than shoulder-width apart, with the toes pointing outward at approximately 45 degrees. The knees are bent deeply, and the hips are lowered, creating a solid base. The body weight is evenly distributed between both legs, and the back remains straight, ensuring a balanced and strong posture. Shiko Dachi is commonly used for delivering powerful strikes and blocks while maintaining a low center of gravity, making it an effective stance for both offense and defense.
