Karate Shotokan 6th Kyu

横蹴り

Yoko Geri

Yoko Geri, or 'Side Kick,' is a powerful and fundamental kicking technique in Shotokan karate. It involves lifting the knee to the side, pivoting on the supporting foot, and extending the leg outwards to strike the target with the edge of the foot or the heel. The kick is typically aimed at the opponent's midsection or head, targeting areas such as the ribs or jaw. Proper execution of Yoko Geri requires strong hip rotation, balance, and control to deliver a forceful and precise strike. It is commonly practiced from stances like Kiba Dachi or Kokutsu Dachi to develop stability and power.
