Soto Uke
Soto Uke, or 'Outside Block,' is a fundamental technique in Shotokan karate used to deflect an opponent's strike. The block is performed by moving the arm outward from the body, starting with the blocking hand positioned near the opposite shoulder. The arm moves in a curved path, sweeping across the front of the body to intercept and deflect the incoming attack away from the torso. This technique is typically executed from a standard stance such as Zenkutsu Dachi or Kiba Dachi, ensuring stability and strength in the block. Soto Uke is crucial for maintaining defense while creating an opening for counter-attacks.
